Background

Under section 54 of the Act, commercial organisations that supply goods or services, carry on business in the UK and meet the annual turnover threshold of at least £36m from the provision of goods and services must publish an annual slavery and human trafficking statement. Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.

Our Business

Reef is a leading UK property developer, serving many of the UK’s pension funds, largest companies and public institutions by partnering with these entities to redevelop land and buildings in London and the south of England through development management and development funding agreements. Reef, as a responsible property developer, acknowledges its duty to combat modern slavery and human trafficking within its operations and supply chains. We are committed to upholding the principles outlined in the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and ensuring that slavery and human trafficking have no place in our business or in the businesses with which we engage. We have a comprehensive policy in place that clearly states our zero-tolerance approach towards modern slavery and human trafficking. This policy is communicated to all employees and stakeholders within the organisation.

Risk Management

Training and Awareness

We provide training and awareness programs to our employees to ensure they understand the signs of modern slavery and human trafficking and know how to report any concerns or suspicions. Training on this policy, and on the risk our business faces from modern slavery in its supply chains, forms part of the induction process for all individuals who work for us, and further training will be provided as necessary.

Encouraging Reporting

All employees are encouraged to raise concerns about any issue or suspicion of modern slavery in any parts of our business or supply chains of any supplier tier at the earliest possible stage. We are committed to ensuring no one suffers any detrimental treatment as a result of reporting in good faith their suspicion that modern  slavery of whatever form is or may be taking place.

Contractual Obligations

Our zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery is communicated to all suppliers, contractors and business partners at the outset of our business relationship with them and reinforced as appropriate thereafter. We include specific clauses in our contracts with suppliers and contractors that require them to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including those related to modern slavery and human trafficking.

Collaboration and Partnership

We collaborate with industry peers, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations to share best practices, resources, and insights on combating modern slavery and human trafficking.

Conclusion

Reef is dedicated to combating modern slavery and human trafficking and will continue to take proactive steps to uphold human rights and ethical standards across our operations and supply chains. This statement has been approved by the board of directors of Reef on behalf of relevant Reef subsidiaries that are subject to the requirements of section 54 of the Act.
